Caro
Lorenzo, chi scrive è Arcadio
Venturi, ho vestito la maglia della Roma per
nove anni, giocando quasi 300 partite. Mi volevo congratulare
con te. Prima di tutto perché sei un giocatore
forte e un uomo responsabile di questa Roma. A
prescindere dalle prestazioni sul terreno di
gioco. A prescindere da un risultato sportivo.
Sei un emblema di questo Club e lo hai
dimostrato più volte con il tuo atteggiamento. Hai superato le 100
partite con la fascia al braccio, arrivando a
101 mi hanno detto che hai eguagliato il mio
numero. Per questo mi fa
piacere poterti stringere idealmente la mano, da
capitano a capitano. Sono felice che gente come
te, Agostino Di Bartolomei, Giuseppe Giannini,
Francesco Totti e Daniele De Rossi abbiano avuto
questo privilegio. Di poter rappresentare la
squadra da romani e romanisti. Quando giocavo io – ed
era davvero un altro calcio – probabilmente non
erano nati nemmeno i tuoi genitori, ma la Roma è
sempre stata questa cosa qui. Sentimento e senso
di appartenenza. Anche per il sottoscritto,
nonostante sia nato a Vignola, un paesino
dell’Emilia-Romagna. La Roma l'ho subito
sentita mia, dal primo momento. Soprattutto
quando nel 1951 retrocedemmo in Serie B, l’unica
stagione vissuta dalla Roma in quel campionato.
La voglia del sottoscritto, insieme a quella dei
miei compagni di squadra, era quella di
riportare immediatamente la Roma dove le
competeva. In Serie A. Ci riuscimmo, ci
riuscimmo subito. Vincemmo il campionato di
Serie B e ricordo che in quella giornata di
Verona, dove ci fu la certezza del nostro
primato, esultammo tutti come se fosse una
grande vittoria. E lo era, per noi. Perché non
era facile, né scontato reagire immediatamente. Poi, con il tempo, sono
diventato capitano. Ricordo che quando mi
affidarono i gradi di leader della squadra,
cercai immediatamente di mettermi a servizio del
gruppo e di portare sempre avanti la Roma. Non
contava il singolo, contava la squadra. Sempre e
comunque. Tu, Lorenzo, hai avuto
la fortuna di alzare una coppa europea da
capitano in quella notte magica di Tirana. Ti
auguro di provare di nuovo quella magica
sensazione. Se vinci tu, vince la Roma. Se vince
la Roma, vinciamo tutti noi che la amiamo.
Perché chi gioca per la Roma, poi non può che
diventare romanista a vita. Complimenti per tutto,

INTERVISTA A ARCADIO VENTURI

Il primo giallorosso
del dopoguerra ad essere convocato in Nazionale. Il
capitano che scambiò i gagliardetti con Ferenc Puskas in
un’amichevole all’Olimpico, che poi diventò la prima
partita trasmessa integralmente in tv della Roma.
Centrocampista completo, nativo di Vignola in provincia
di Modena, si innamorò della società della Capitale. Uno
dei leader indiscussi di “una squadra povera”. Di quella
che andò in Serie B nel campionato 1950-51. Nella stessa
epoca in cui Renato Rascel al Sistina pronunciò la frase
più romanista di sempre: “La Roma non si discute, si
ama”.
“Quella di Rascel fu una definizione bellissima, di un grande artista romano e romanista. Ma devo dire che in quel momento più di qualcuno criticò duramente la Roma, andando anche oltre…”.
Cosa successe dopo la retrocessione nel 1951?
“Fu una tragedia. Venimmo bersagliati dalle chiacchiere e in quei giorni uscì pure uno scandalo sui giornali. Alcuni miei compagni di squadra furono beccati dalla stampa dopo alcune frequentazioni notturne. C’erano personaggi che giravano intorno alla squadra che favorivano incontri con certe donne dello spettacolo. Potete capire che reazione ci fu quando questa storia venne resa nota. Per fortuna a me non venne mai in mente di dar retta a quei signori poco raccomandabili”.
Restò fuori dalle polemiche?
“Sì, ero molto giovane e qualsiasi cosa facessi dovevo rendere conto al direttore sportivo Biancone. Quando arrivai nella Capitale mi mandarono a vivere presso una famiglia in una camera ammobiliata in viale del Vignola. Io, di Vignola, andai ad abitare a Roma in viale del Vignola. Da non credere. Tutto quello che facevo lo raccontavo al direttore Biancone… Lui mi convocava in sede a via del Tritone e lì mi metteva in guardia su vari aspetti. Gli chiesi un permesso pure quando acquistai un’automobile”.
Addirittura.
“Presi una Topolino, una vettura non particolarmente grande. Biancone acconsentì solo dopo avendo chiesto che cilindrata fosse. Ero monitorato dalla mattina alla sera, ma fu una fortuna per la mia carriera”.
Come la prese la Roma?
“Era il 1948, ero un diciottenne di buone speranze, ma tutto da verificare in squadre di livello superiore. Militavo in Serie C con la Vignolese, la formazione di una piccola provincia dell’Emilia Romagna. Un osservatore della Roma mi notò e mi portò a Montecatini in prova, dove la Roma era in ritiro. Mi schierarono in una partita amichevole nella quale giocò anche Amadei e la prestazione convinse i dirigenti a tesserarmi”.
Quanto la pagarono?
“Il contratto tra i dirigenti prevedeva questa formula: due milioni di lire alla firma, da versare subito, e poi altri tre milioni e mezzo se avessi giocato trentaquattro partite nei due anni successivi. E invece ne giocai trentaquattro in un solo campionato, al primo. Incassarono sei milioni totali per me. Certo, viene da ridere a pensare alle cifre che circolano oggi nel calcio. Ora i milioni sono di euro e non di lire…”.
L’esordio in campo?
“Avvenne a Bologna, nella prima giornata di campionato, grazie all’allenatore Brunella che mi diede subito fiducia. Si infortunò Zsengeller, serviva un altro uomo di qualità in mezzo al campo. Giocai io, vincemmo 2-1 e da allora il mister non mi tolse più dalla squadra titolare”.
Il primo campionato in giallorosso si concluse con il quattordicesimo posto, una salvezza stentata.
“Vero, evitammo la Serie B per pochi punti, ma questo non servì per evitare la retrocessione nella stagione successiva. Ma era una Roma povera, la società non aveva grandi mezzi a disposizione. Per fortuna, dopo essere tornati in A, arrivò Sacerdoti che attuò un cambiamento radicale. Il presidente portò giocatori di livello internazionale come Ghiggia e costruì una squadra importante”.
Che rapporto la legava a Ghiggia? Alcides decise di chiamare il figlio Arcadio in suo onore...
“Vero e glielo sconsigliai pure... (ride, ndr) Arcadio non mi ha mai fatto impazzire come nome, pure oggi non è molto comune, ma a lui piaceva e decise così. Ero un suo grande amico. Tuttavia, avevo instaurato ottimi rapporti con tutti, ho sempre avuto un carattere espansivo”.
Lo stipendio dell’epoca?
“Circa 105.000 lire al mese. Ed era un ottimo ingaggio perché io militavo in una squadra come la Roma che faceva capo a una città con almeno cinquecentomila abitanti. All’epoca lo stipendio variava anche da questo fattore: più persone venivano a vederci allo stadio, più prendevamo ogni mese. Non c’erano ovviamente gli introiti delle televisioni o altre entrate. Tutto dipendeva dal botteghino”.
La Roma per lei?
“I
migliori anni della mia vita. Se avessi potuto, sarei
rimasto tutta la carriera. Non l’ho mai discussa la
Roma, io, l’ho solo amata”.
